My mom, Pam, is the anchor of our family — the kind of woman who quietly keeps everything running. When we realized we were living parallel lives in two separate homes, it felt obvious (and maybe a little overdue) to bring our families together.
Now, we’re doing the real work of building a layered life: raising kids while caregiving, working while parenting, and slowly renovating our very beige, very 1990s house into something that feels like home, one room (and sconce) at a time.

Hi, I’m Ali — a North Carolina native, working mom of two boys, and the voice behind Mom in the Middle.
I’m raising a baby and a big kid under one roof with my husband, our three dogs, and my parents, all in the middle of a full, multigenerational life. My boys, W (almost 7) and S (just turned 1), are in completely different life stages, which means I’m packing preschool snacks and elementary lunchboxes at the same time, while balancing back-to-back Webex calls and a million loads of laundry.
We bought our forever home during my maternity leave — a decision driven by love, logistics, and a deep belief in family. My dad, Mike, is a walking miracle. Years ago, after a major medical emergency, his life was saved by a mailman, a story that made national headlines. Since then, we’ve clung tighter to each other and made every day together count.
